Have Books Will Travel
With dual certification in Elementary Education and Special Education (K-21) and a Master's in Education with a Minor in Theatre Arts, I have several graduate courses towards a Master's in Reading with a focus on assessing and treating reading problems in school-aged children. For five years, I served as a Reading Consultant/Teacher in both the Kansas City Public Schools and Houston Public School District.
In addition, I have other areas of specialty including teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Spanish and ESL for a Community College in NY state for over 13 years. I continue to work with both students and adults in these areas as well as in GED preparation for adult students.
As a seasoned educator with over 35 years of teaching experience in and out of the classroom, I have worked in the private sector in both industry and government. I also had the opportunity to work in Penal Education at the Nassau County Correctional Center(NY), teaching in the Women's Rehab Unit and preparing residents to re-enter the outside world.
I am passionate about my work and strongly believe that no student is incapable of achieving their goals, regardless of age, environment, or past life experiences. My philosophy is to listen to my students and meet their needs, which works for all students, adults and school age alike.
In addition to my role as an educator, I have served as a Training Specialist for the Town of Oyster Bay (NY) and worked as a translator and Accounts Representative for a high profile law firm in Great Neck, New York.
